I recently attended Diageo Reserve World Class India Finals 2017 for the Best Bartender of the year at St. Regis, Mumbai. Firstly, it was a whole new experience for me and the energy was amazing. I’ve never been a fan of cocktails but I’m going to change my thought after attending #WorldClassIn and go for trying amazing blends of cocktails.
Diageo Reserve WORLD CLASS is transforming fine drinking experiences and cocktail culture around the world and at home.
It is one of the biggest and most prestigious bartending competitions in the world, offering a gamut of luxury spirits from Diageo Reserve namely Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, Johnnie Walker Platinum Label 18, Talisker 10YO, the Singleton of Glen Ord 12YO, Tanqueray 10, CÎROC and Ketel One. Top 12 contenders from India were judged by the expert panel consisting Donald Colville, Diageo Global Scotch Ambassador – Malts, Nicholas Ord, Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador and Nikhil Agarwal, Sommelier & CEO, All Things Nice.
The best part about the competition was everyone was so enthusiastic and motivating. Even contenders cheered on their opponents with claps and smile on their faces, such amazing sportsman spirit, and energy.
The contenders went through 3 rounds which tested their skill and ability to be the Best Bartender of the Year. The competition included a Blind Tasting round, The Speed Round & The Mystery Box Round. Passing all these 3 rounds with unparalleled skills with utmost passion and speed, Rohan Rege from Paasha – JW Marriot, Pune was declared title of the India Bartender of the Year at Diageo Reserve World Class 2017.
Jeet Rana from Perch, Delhi was the runner-up, and Kevin Dias from Hakkasan, Mumbai placed third. All the contestants showed immense skill and technique while making their cocktails, creating a great atmosphere for the audience and judges present at the event.
Sharing his big win, Rohan Rege added, “The entire experience has been so surreal and overwhelming. It feels fantastic to know that all the sleepless nights and hard work has paid off. I’m tremendously thankful to Diageo Reserve World Class for providing me with this platform and I’m now eagerly looking forward to competing at the Global Finals in Mexico.”
Rohan will now take on the world’s best bartenders at Diageo’s ninth annual Global Diageo World Class Competition that will be held in Mexico in August 2017. And my best wishes are with him!
